Add To Your WishlistSWMC-Core Curriculum Learning Pod 2025-2026 School Year

Our learning pod is open to grades 4-8th grade. In this project based program, students focus on the core curriculum from home using a unique fun approach that can be specialized to the student's needs.

School Year Requirement: According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the average length of an American school year is 180 days. When divided by the conventional five-day school week, this equates to roughly 36 weeks per school year.

Learning pod access includes full curriculum for the student including: Math, History, Science, Language Arts, Reading, Book Studies, Writing Prompts, Spelling, & Technology Skills. Full curriculum with video lessons will be provided in Google Classroom so the course will be easy to follow with little to no parent involvement required for lesson presentation. The parent is still asked to check in regularly on the student work and for pacing purposes.

Families can chose between a self paced or hybrid learning pod. The hykbrid learning pod also had an additional add-on tutoring option.

Self Paced Learning Style

With self paced, the student will be provided access to the core curriculum Google Classrooms. Each week the student will work on 5 tasks for each class. Normally tasks take around 15-20 minutes each. It is recommended that the student have a set time period to work on curriculum each week, and a parent/guardian to check GC regularly.  Self paced is great for families that RV, famiiles that travel, families that live abroad, families that lack wifi access at times, families that prefer to teach from the curriculum provided instead of an instructor led model, and students who prefer to not Zoom with others.

Tuition: $1250 for a full year over 8 class topics (Math, History, Science, L Arts, Reading/Book Studies, Writing Prompts, Spelling, & Technology). This is an estimated $7 each school day. ($1250 divided by 180 school days=$7/day) Families will be responsible for purchasing basic school supplies, lab supplies, and required workbooks.

Hybrid Learning Style-MOST POPULAR

With hybrid learning, the student will be engaged each week in Zooms that will be group centered. Hybrid is great for students who need deadlines, and prefer weekly instructor led classes. Hybrid students are provided access to full curriculum in Google Classroom, but meet with the instructor to go over weekly expectations. All assignments must be completed before the next meeting with the instructor-giving students a full week to complete assignments before meeting again for the next week's assignments.

Registration: It is best to register early for a learning pod, so that we will have time to discuss your school expections and look at your schedule. We will use workbooks for many of the classes, so we do need time to order those before class begins. Enrollment will open as early as March 2025.

Tuition: $3600 for a full year over 8 class topics and the following live session group sessions below. (36 weeks x $100 week=$3600). Workbooks needed for classes will be included in the tuition price. The family will need to purchase basic school supplies for daily lessons and labs.

Mondays 8-8:45am Brainstorm Word Writing

During this time period the class will open up with a light hearted discussion on current news or the theme of the week. Then the group will be provided a list of spelling words for the week. This list will be a combination of vocabulary for this age level, with additional challenge words. The spelling list will be introduced using a time of pronunciation, definitions, and use in a sentence. The writing prompt for the week will then be introduced. Students will work to try to implement some of the weekly spelling words and use various technology skills taught to complete the assignment. A focus will be on teaching students to use Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Sheets, and other important technology skills.

Note: After the Zoom, each student will have weekly tasks to work on outside of class independently for Spelling, Technology, and Writing Prompts (with Language Arts components).

Wednesdays 8-8:45am Bookworms

During this special time we will read aloud together, and discuss our current book topic. This time will be used for not only reading, but also for live assessments over the book sections to check for reading comprehension. In addition, various reading exercises and literacy analysis will be completed.

Note: After the Zoom, students will have set pages to read and reflect on. Students can take all reading comprehension tests multiple times for additional practice outside of the Zoom also.

The following books are on our list for this year:  My Side Of The Mountain byJean Craighead George, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and Voyage of the Frog by Gary Paulsen.

Fridays 8-8:45am Exploring Creativity In Science With Test Skill Practice

During this designated time, students will participate in an exciting exploration of the world of science! Each week, we'll dive into a diverse range of captivating topics, from advanced concepts to general science. Through our journey, we'll dissect the elements with the use of arts/crafts/STEM while exploring science topics.Learners are encouraged to unleash their imagination using whatever materials are at their disposal to encourage creativity and "thinking outside of the box". Example: Oreo moon phases, creating a rock collection, nature journaling, botany studies, collages, painting, and more. Some weeks we will focus on test skill practice. Using Quizizz, students will participate in fun practice tests over various science standards. This class is a great way to build and strengthen science knowledge.

Tuesdays 2-3pm Open Help Session

Students are welcome to attend the group help session for 1:1 help on assignments/projects, to take live assessments, or to use as a study hall in a private Zoom break-out room. This time will be optional drop-in style but available to all hybrid learning pod students.
