Biomes are large, geographically distinct areas with specific climate, vegetation, and animal life. They are essentially major life zones, categorized by the types of organisms and environmental conditions that thrive there. These areas are defined by their climate, soil type, and the unique adaptations of the plants and animals that inhabit them.
Tropical Rainforests: High temperatures, abundant rainfall, and diverse plant and animal life.
Savannas: Grasslands with scattered trees, seasonal rainfall, and large herbivores.
Deserts: Dry environments with sparse vegetation and unique adaptations to conserve water.
Grasslands: Dominated by grasses and adapted to moderate rainfall and seasonal temperature changes.
Forests: Dominated by trees, with various types based on climate and tree species.
Tundra: Cold, treeless regions with permafrost and adapted to harsh conditions.
This six week template will provide short lessons and activities to help students learn each of the biomes above. The class will be housed in Google Classroom with a mixture of short videos, lessons, and activity choice boards.
Note: The format is provided with a six week format, but students have up to a full year to complete this fun elective.
Project: At the end of this course, students will be asked to create a diorama to represent their favorite biome. The shoebox diorama should demonstrate the terrain, animals, and plants that live in the habitat biome.
