Note: Both locations will allow parents a place to walk outside and enjoy nature during the class time, and the classroom will be visible. At Don Carter we will use the outdoor pavilion and at Nopone we will use the arts/craft room with full clear windows to check on your child's lab progress. I do ask that parents stay on the location grounds. Don Carter State Park has lots of outdoor trails, and a playground by the pavilion. Nopone Community Center has an outdoor paved walking trail and 2 dirt trails for exploring in addition to the ball fields on the property.
FAQ:
Can siblings attend? Each student will need to register and pay for a seat. We are limited to the amount of students we can have inside the classroom so all seats must be accounted for. Also, each student will receive their own supply bag for the day's lab.
Do you offer a discount for siblings? Sorry, each student is helping pay for the rental of the event location, the teacher, and the supply bag that will be provided.
What age should the student be? This class will cover middle school science standards for middle school age students. I also offer a elementary school group class, if you are interested.
What prep is needed for the class? Students do not need to study for the lesson, everything they will need for the lab will be covered in the lesson and lab instructions.
What if my child has an allergy? Please let me know because some of the labs do involve edible items.
What should my child bring? Every student needs to bring a common supply kit-scissors, spiral notebook, pencil, and pack of coloring pencils. These are common supplies they will need for each class. I will provide the additional lab supplies.
Will I need to attend with my child? The classes will be set up for fun, and will have easy to follow instructions.Parents are asked to stay on the premises during the class, but most parents walk for exercise during the class time.
What if my child is special needs? Please reach out to sciencewithcollins@gmail.com some activities will not be appropriate or comfortable in regards to sensory needs, auditory concerns, etc so please reach out if you need special accommodations.
