General Tutoring Video Based
- Description
I love to tutor students and help students gain confidence in learning. I have been a teacher for over 27 years, and have tutored students afterschool in-person and online for over 12 years. This year I have joined the following as a contract tutor: GOAT tutors, Wyzant, Colosky Connections, and Class Dojo. So if you are using any of those platforms, feel free to book me there but I prefer families to use my website for direct bookings.
I offer a unique approach to tutoring. I tutor via Zoom, but I also offer pre-recorded tutoring. I recognize that many students may prefer to not participate in a live Zoom so I do offer the option of pre-recorded tutoring. In a PRT session, I will create a personal video addressing the student and covering the material the family has contacted me about. I will also create Wayground Quizizz practice sessions for the student to work on later. On Wayground Quizizz a teacher can assign virtual notecards, video clips with embedded questions, and practice assessments. Data will then be gathered and shared with the family after each assignment is completed. But I am open to tutoring in a way that best suits the student.
During my sessions I use a variety of curriculum I have created personally over my 27 years of teaching and curriculum from the following: Teachers Pay Teachers, Education.com, Twinkl.com, Holt, CK-12, Miacademy, Spectrum workbooks, and more.
I tutor the following:
All Subjects-Grades K-6th Grade
Study Skills-All Ages
Test Prep-All Ages
Note: I do not tutor Physics, Chemistry or math over Pre Algebra. But I do have a tutor that I can refer you too. Instead my tutoring experience has been focused on all grade level work K-6, study skills, and core science up to 10th grade.
Recommendations: I love for my students to have the following supplies-spiral notebook, pencil, eraser, notecards (or cut up pieces of paper to use as notecards, and ziploc bags or container to hold notecards. I work to embed study skills practices by teaching students how to take notes, create vocabulary collages, doodle note tricks, and more. Research shows that students who draw or write down material have an increase in comprehension. For example, if I am teaching the student how to do a specific math problem I will recommend they try it on paper too. This way they will have notes to study after the lesson. In a science class it is normal to see your child drawing a cell, creating a colorful key for the organelles. We may even create models out of clay or play-doh to help us remember the parts of a cell.
My sessions are fun, and light hearted. I strive to ask each child about their day and how they feel before we begin. I try my best to find a common connection with each student so they feel at ease. During the session I always provide positve praise and we set goals before ending our session.
