Biology Basics (SP, HZ: 9 Unit Course: Grades 7-12)
- Description
This course introduces students to the scientific study of living organisms. Students will investigate biological concepts including Cells, DNA, Cell Processes, Heredity, Genetics, & Body Systems. This course is available using the self paced model or through an instructor led hybrid model.
This course is perfect for the following situations:
-The student recently left the school system and did not complete a full year of Biology.
This course features the basic science standards for Biology mastery. The course will review key concepts, and provide condensed Biology mastery concepts needed for Biology credit.
-The student recently was enrolled in a homeschool co-op or another Biology course, but was unable to complete it.
This course will feature the basics needed to help the student regain Biology credit.
Kinesthetic learning is the most intriguing of the learning styles, mingling elements of both visual and auditory learning and compelling full participation from the student. Named after kinesiology, the study of human movement, it's most commonly referred to as “hands-on” learning. This course will feature many hands-on science labs to try at home, several diagrams and clay/play-doh models to create.
Format: The class will feature 9 units. The instructor will provide videos (YouTube and teacher created slideshows) covering biology concepts, and then students will be asked to draw various components of the lesson, recreate items using hands-on activities, and respond with summary responses.
This course provides the basics of Biology, providing all of the Biology standards but in a unique way. The material is simplified and additional confusing concepts have been opted. This provides our learners a way to focus on key concepts, and focus on the hands-on activities provided to help with comprehension. This is not a regular Biology course, but instead a simplified class that works best for students with special needs or students who need a class with a focus on visual learning.
Sign Up Options: Self Paced or Live 1:1 Zoom
Self Paced Information: This is a 9 unit class. Students have up to a year with access to the course. This is a self paced course, so students can register at anytime.
Live Zoom Information: This class also has the option to be provided via live Zoom. The instructor will meet with the student for 9 live Zoom sessions to help with lessons and lab instruction. The rate is $45/meeting for a tuition rate of $405. With live Zoom the student will meet with the instructor to go over the main topic of the week. During Zooms students may watch slideshow presentations, work on a live lab with the instructor, or complete an online interactive Quizizz practice assessment. The student will have a week to complete the tasks, before the next Zoom. The live Zoom option is great for families who prefer deadlines and a steady pace to complete the class.
Curriculum: All curriculum resources will be provided for students. In this course a combination of Glencoe Biology, Holt Biology, Lumen Learning, GA Virtual and CK-12 will be used. This class meets Next General Science Standards, and the state standards. The course is taught by a certified Biology teacher with over 25 years of experience in the classroom.
