Messy Science K-6th Grade (SP: 6 Weeks)
- Description
Messy science is a great class for students who are not afraid to get dirty in the science lab. I have picked out my messiest labs and combined them into a class for students who love digging into science.
Week 1 Dirt Cup
Create an edible dirt cup and learn about the layers of soil at the same time.
Week 2 Slime
Learn how to make several different types of slime-edible, smelly, and colorful slime options. A short lesson on density and consistancy of items will be taught. (Hint: Over 40 different slime experiments will be provided so the student can pick the ones they are interested in.)
Week 3 Erupt
Let's gather various items, not the normal cup volcano but let's make a pumpkin erupt using vinegar and baking soda. What else can we use? Students will use their creative side to find items to erupt. A short lesson on volcanoes will also be presented.
Week 4 Craters
After a short lesson on the Moon, we will create Moon craters using marbles or small rocks. Students will drop the marbles from various heights into a pan and measure crater width.
Week 5 Surface Tension
After a short lesson over density and surface tension, students will add dish detergent to a plate full of water and pepper. They will be surprised how the pepper will retreat quickly because of the soap. In addition, a magic milk experiment will also occur.
Week 6 Eggs
This week our focus will move to the anatomy of an egg and how strong an egg shell is. Students will try the STEM "egg drop" experiment, and also crack and egg to learn how to grade it like the USDA.
The class is a fun way to interact as you learn. Each week will have short Youtube clips, diagrams, and fun facts. Then the student will be provided with fun easy to follow labs.
