Course Platform: Google Classroom
Length: Semester Course
Herbology is the study of plants, especially their medicinal use. It encompasses the knowledge of plant identification, growth patterns, habitats, and uses, particularly in healing. While often associated with magical practices in fiction like Harry Potter, herbology also has roots in real-world practices of herbal medicine and traditional healing systems.
Herbology is an interdisciplinary field:
It draws on knowledge from botany, chemistry, medicine, and traditional healing practices. The first units will provide general life science, and botany to help students gain a strong foundation before beginning on the herb lessons.
In fiction (Harry Potter):
Herbology is a subject taught at Hogwarts, focusing on magical plants and fungi. Students learn about their properties, cultivation, and uses in potions and other magical applications.
In the real world:
Herbology is a branch of botany that explores the medicinal and other practical uses of plants. It's closely tied to herbalism, the practice of using plants for healing, and traditional medicine systems like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Ayurveda.
Plant identification and classification.
Understanding plant growth and habitats.
Learning about the chemical properties of plants and their effects.
Exploring traditional and modern uses of plants for medicinal purposes.

This course will be offered self paced, allowing students time to work through the lessons at a convenient pace.

Depending on the time of year that you register for the class, an indoor small area will work.
In this class students will learn to identify common herbs, and about the wonderful world of botany. We will also learn about the history of some traditional uses of the plants. This will be a fun class with lots of information and activities to try.
We will cover plant identification and the importance of correctly identifying plants you use. We will learn the scientific names of the plants and why it is important to know these. We will discuss different types of things you can make from plants-teas, lotions, elixirs, extracts, beauty products and more. Not only that, but we will learn to make some samples for personal use.
